5 Tips For Choosing A Wedding Dress

5 Tips For Choosing A Wedding Dress

1. Where Will It Be Worn?

Location, location, location is key when it comes to wedding dresses, many people choose dresses that meet the theme of their wedding and the location it’s going to be held in. However, another thing you should consider is whether you will be wearing different dresses throughout different parts of the day. Some people choose to wear the same dress all day, although it is becoming more of a common occurrence for people to wear dresses for the ceremony and then change into a different dress for the reception or evening event.

2. Budget

Before you go dress hunting or even booking appointments at bridal shops, you need to set yourself a clear budget. Whilst everyone wants their dream wedding dress, if you know you can only afford a set amount, the last thing you want to do is fall in love with one 10 times what you had in mind price wise. By setting a budget you can then research bridal stores that fit within your budget, meaning you get the same great experience of dress shopping, whilst still falling in love with a dress that’s at a realistic price range.

3. Be Prepared

It’s true what they say, the early bird does catch the worm. If you’re looking for a wedding dress, then you should be looking at least 6 to 9 months before the big day. On average it can take anywhere between 2 and 4 months to receive a dress from the designer and that’s before any alterations have been made as well. A good rule of thumb to follow is the more elaborate your dress is in design, the earlier you should be shopping for it. It’s always important to remember you might fall lucky and find an off that rack design that requires very little alteration but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

4. Bring Bridal Backup

When you book an appointment at a bridal shop such as ourselves, make sure you bring your bridal backup. You should always check with the store itself on what their policy is and how many people you are allowed to bring though, don’t just expect to be able to bring two people along. Try to invite people with similar tastes to yourself and avoid anyone being opinionated as it will only end up causing tension and spoiling your special moment. In addition to this, if you’ve already picked out shoes or jewellery, bring this along with you to ensure it goes with the dress you’ve chosen.

5. Listen To The Expert

One of the most important things to remember is you need to listen to the experts as well. Bridal consultants have worked with brides for years and they’ve seen every type of dress and bride, so they’ll know what works and what doesn’t. By working closely with your friends and bridal consultant, you’re sure to find the dress for you.
